Responsibilities:

The Industrial Electrician III performs responsible skilled work in the electrical operation, maintenance, and repair of water and wastewater treatment plants, lift stations, and remote pumping and treatment facilities’ equipment. This work is performed under little supervision. Employee normally receives little to no instruction on routine work and general instruction on new projects and assignments; work is reviewed periodically for accuracy of results achieved with primary feedback given with final results.

THIS POSITION REQUIRES SCHEDULED/UNSCHEDULED OVERTIME, INCLUDING EVENINGS, WEEKENDS, AND HOLIDAYS AND/OR IMMEDIATE RESPONSE TO EMERGENCY CONDITIONS.

  • Keeps the mission, vision and values of the client and Utility Systems Department at the forefront of decision making and action; builds strategic and collaborative relationships and interacts with others in a way that builds confidence and trust; provides excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives, maintaining high levels of work and productivity by generating innovative solutions to work situations.
  • Performs skilled journeyman level installation, maintenance, and repair activities on water treatment, wastewater treatment, reclaimed water systems, wastewater collection systems, water distribution systems, and generator systems.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs electrical systems located at well sites, sewer lift stations, metering and valve vaults, water, and wastewater plants.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs electrical equipment such as telemetry systems, motors, motor control centers, wells, sewer lift stations, generators, air compressors, etc.
  • Performs regular preventative maintenance at all lift stations and treatment facilities.
  • Provides leadership and guidance to lower-level staff in electrical principles, methods, and electrical safety.
  • Orders parts and maintains inventory.
  • Determines materials and methods to be used in the performance of specific assignments from initial planning through implementation and completion.
  • Regular and punctual attendance.
  • Works with plant operators to understand plant processes.
  • Assists in other maintenance operations.
  • Utilizes technical manuals, diagrams, and technical support to isolate and repair electrical control systems.
  • Regularly assists in the calibration of process control equipment at Utility facilities, utilizing various types of test equipment.
  • Regularly assists Instrumentation Technicians in troubleshooting and repairing PLC’s, HMI, and RF Modems.  May be called upon to perform these duties individually during emergency situations.
  • Maintains accurate records and performs work related to this job description as required.
  • May be tasked with assuming Lead Electrician duties during absence of department Lead Electrician.
  • May be required to work rotating shifts, on call duties on a regular basis, and extended hours in emergency situations.
  • Other duties as may be assigned

Qualifications:  

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of National Electrical Code and relevant municipal codes.
  • Thorough knowledge of principles, methods, materials, equipment, and tools used in electrical trade.
  • Thorough knowledge of occupation hazards, safety rules, and practices.
  • Working knowledge of 3-phase electrical systems.
  • Working knowledge of electronic circuitry and computer systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of pumps, machinery, motors, and their electrical controls.
  • Skill in maintaining and repairing motor-controlled actuators, soft starts, and installation, programming, and start up of variable frequency drives.
  • Ability to work from blueprints, schematic drawings, and/or construction drawing.
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals and work instruction and apply them to maintenance and operation activities.
  • Ability to troubleshoot routine to complex electrical problems related to water and wastewater treatment and pumping facilities.
  • Ability to work without supervision and make decisions pertaining to work problems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.
  • Ability to focus on the positive in every situation.

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma supplemented by college courses required.  
  • Five (5) Years prior Water/Wastewater Utility experience required.  

A comparable amount of training, education, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations:

  • Possession and maintenance of a Journeyman Electrician License for duration of employment required. 
  • Completion of four (4) year Electrical Apprenticeship preferred.
  • Documented training on NFPA 70E Electrical Safety Requirements, Basic Motor Controls, and VFD programming/operation required.  
  • Possession of valid Florida Driver's License and maintenance of clean driving record required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions that may be adverse and extreme (heat, humidity, cold, rain, etc.). The employee is frequently exposed to noise, dust, fumes, airborne particles, uneven surfaces, heights, and stressful situations. 
 
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
