Responsibilities:

  • Performs mechanical repairs and preventive maintenance on pumping systems, gearboxes and mechanical drive systems, in a water plant environment.
  • Installs new pumps and piping as Page 36 needed to repair equipment.
  • Performs routine maintenance on valves, seals, and motors.
  • Maintains buildings and facilities.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs heavy industrial, water processing equipment.
  • Replaces bearings, aligns motors and pumps to minimize vibration and stresses.
  • Replaces seals, bushings, and other mechanical parts.
  • Performs minor repairs as well as preventative maintenance on pumps.
  • Assists other trades in performing major overhauls of pumps and motors.
  • Repair PVC pipes and fittings.
  • Maintains chlorine delivery systems.
  • Replaces drive belts, filters, grease and lubricate all equipment on a routine PM program.
  • Work requires independent judgment and is performed under limited supervision of a designated supervisor.
  • Work is reviewed through observations, conferences, reports and results achieved.
  • Work is physically demanding in hazardous conditions requiring close contact with different chemicals while wearing the appropriate safety equipment.
  • Depending on area of assignment, shall be able to comply with the requirements of the Utilities' Health and Safety Manual.

Qualifications:  

  • 3 years of mechanical experience in an industrial complex or a water treatment facility, to include experience in disassembly and repair of pumps, experience in conducting repairs according to technical manuals and drawings and experience in the use of precision measuring equipment.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work with limited supervision.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future. 

Education: 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Travel Requirements:  

This position will involve no travel.
