Responsibilities:

This position is a contractual position, subject to the terms and conditions of an employment agreement, on a yearly renewable basis. No City benefits available.
 
This job is shift work, which is defined as working at a particular jobsite. Every worksite an employee reports to is a new shift. Therefore, travel time is not compensable.

Public safety work monitoring  the safety of children at assigned school crosswalk. Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the City.

Essential Duties:

The following duties are illustrative for this position. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.  

 
  • Keeps the mission, vision and values of the client at the forefront of decision making and action; builds strategic and collaborative relationships and interacts with others in a way that builds confidence and trust; provides excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives, maintaining high levels of work and productivity by generating innovative solutions to work situations.
  • Escorts children across the street going to and returning home from school.
  • Observes and records names of operators and license numbers of vehicles violating traffic regulations at a school crosswalk.   Reports violators to the Department.

Qualifications:  

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Minimum of eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Must provide own transportation to assigned post.  
  • Must not have been convicted of a felony crime or a misdemeanor involving moral turpitude or illegal substances.
  • Knowledge of municipal ordinances regulating the movement of traffic at a school crosswalk.
  • Ability to work with children and to instruct them in the need for crossing streets in a safe manner.
  • Ability to enforce firmly and impartially the laws and ordinances relating to the area of work.
  • Ability to understand and carry out simple oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
  • Ability to focus on the positive in every situation.
  • Ability to model respect for individuals, teams, and the organization.
  • Ability to stay centered when challenged.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees and the public.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future. 

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.  The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.  The employee is occasionally required to react and control an emergency situation for the safety of children.  Must possess sufficient physical strength to stand and walk for long periods of time, occasionally under adverse weather conditions.   Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.   Must also have adequate hearing to anticipate possible endangerment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions, wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, and uneven surfaces.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
