Salary Range: $19.81/hr. - $21.89/hr. 

Responsibilities:

Working under the daily supervision of the Chief of EMS you will be responsible for accurately and appropriately working to recover funds related to ambulance billing claims.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Making collection calls on past due accounts, negotiating and resolving past due balances by providing repayment assistance by phone.
  • Persistently following up with accounts regarding past due balances, including maintaining detailed collection notes.
  • Adhering to collection guidelines in order to ensure outstanding obligations are satisfied.
  • Accepting constructive feedback to improve personal skill set.
  • Contributing to the training and development of others to achieve shared goals in a team atmosphere.
  • Demonstrating high productivity in making outbound calls and answering incoming calls regarding customers’ accounts, as well as returning calls promptly.
  • Utilizing sound judgment and thinking outside the box to assess each customer’s ability to pay and establish payment plans to maximize successful collection of outstanding balances.
  • Maintaining outstanding quality assurance results.
  • Meeting and exceeding key performance metrics while adhering to all compliance regulations.
  • Continually monitoring assigned work queues to ensure all records are processed in a timely matter, with appropriate prioritization.
  • Monitoring the accuracy of patient demographic and insurance information, and validating that required signatures are in place prior to claim submission.
  • Maintaining a working knowledge of insurance and/or special handling requirements as they pertain to coding for ambulance services.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of all patient care information to ensure patient rights are protected and legal requirements are met.
  • Maintaining knowledge of current industry standards and ensue organizational coding practices align.
  • Adhering to all organizational policies and work with the highest level of integrity.
  • Traveling as occasionally required for local or regional meetings and conferences.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:  

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in hospital or physician’s office procedure charting preferable.
  • Two (2) years’ experience in ICD-10, preferred.
  • Medical Coding Certification, preferred.
  • Proficient knowledge of procedure and diagnostic codes (HCPCS and ICD-10 codes).
  • Working knowledge of medical billing and medical terminology.
  • Understanding of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Excellent time management skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and with a group and maintain good working relationships.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future. 

Education: 

  • Minimum GED or High School Diploma.
Physical Demands: 
  • Sitting for long periods of time, occasional light and moderate lifting exceeding 25 pounds.
  • Occasional standing, walking, bending and stooping are secondary to main elements of this position. Vision and hearing normal or correctable to within normal limits.
  • Must possess visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures, operate a computer terminal, and operate a motor vehicle.
