Job Description 

The Science Communications Specialist will work with our GovCon client.

Responsibilities:

  • Explain and organize complex scientific information in style that is easily understandable to non-scientists and iterate with NOAA until it is scientifically accurate and understandable by the target audience. 
  • Use existing or develop new logic models to tell NOAA’s scientific story, or make recommendations into effective ways to communicate it.
  • Provide presentation layout/design support in the Adobe Suite.
  • Provide expert level support to communicate scientific data and information through visual means. Such work includes but is not limited to the design, production, and display of photographs, graphics, data visualizations, videos, in support of the NOAA Science Report.
  • Guide the products through multiple review cycles with NOAA until it is scientifically accurate and understandable by the targeted audience.
  • Provide expert level management of the NOAA Science Report Seminar Series. Manage the speaker nomination and selection process in conjunction with the Research and Development Enterprise Committee; manage event logistics and marketing; provide speaker support services and coaching; facilitate presentation of a virtual seminar series.  
  • Develop briefing materials as necessary to communicate the status of the NOAA Science Report.

Qualifications:  

  • Master’s Degree in a related field from an accredited university required.
  • 6+ years of experience in the field or in a related area required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must demonstrate strong writing and editing skills, and experience translating complex scientific information for non-scientific audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and work in a high-paced environment
  • Can work both independently and as a team
  • Strong writing and editing skills, and experience translating complex scientific information for non-scientific audiences
  • MS Office, G-Suite, and Adobe Suite proficiency
  • Strong written, analytical, strategic foresight 
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, the ability to learn by example, and multitask
  • Demonstrated experience managing projects
  • Knowledge of NOAA systems, services, research, and/or programs is required
  • An eye for creative thought, design, and layout
  • Experience with creating logic models and other ways to visualize information and data

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future. 

Education 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or a combination of training, certifications, and experience
