Salary Range: $4,149.92/mo. - $7,149.92/mo.

Responsibilities:

  • This is skilled and specialized mechanic work in the repair and maintenance of firefighting trucks, equipment, related apparatus and advanced expertise (specialization) related to multiplex computer diagnostic equipment technology required for modern apparatus repair and maintenance needs.
  • Work involves the repair, maintenance, and servicing of a wide variety of both conventional and specialized equipment and motorized machinery.
  • Work requires the use of the usual and specialized automotive mechanic's tools, shop equipment, and machinery required for repairing heavy equipment.
  • Work assignments are received from the Lead Mechanic either orally or in writing.
  • An employee of this class performs diagnostics, repairs, services, or maintenance work, and any final tests or checks to determine that the work has been completed satisfactorily. 
  • The selected candidate should be EVT and ASE certified or be willing to attain certification. 
  • Some knowledge of the construction, design, repair and adjustment of a wide variety of both conventional and specialized fire trucks, apparatus, equipment and machinery is necessary. 
  • The selected candidate should have some knowledge of automotive tools and equipment, as well as the special tools, gauges, machinery and shop equipment used in the repairs, servicing and maintenance of firefighting equipment. 
  • Some on-call time may be required.
  • Position Details:
    • Fulltime as per current MOA
    • Regular work week is 7am to 4pm Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week
    • This position may require overtime/compensatory time hours of work.
    • Fire Department employees are governed by the current SOPs, Policies, Procedures, and current MOA.

Qualifications:  

  • Shall be nineteen (19) years of age at time of applications.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Kansas class B driver’s license as per department policy.
  • Possess basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite platform.
  • Communicate effectively in oral, written, and electronic media formats.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, peers, subordinates, local government officials and the public.
  • ASE certified
  • EVT certified
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future. 
  • Be able to lift, carry, and push heavy goods and supplies of a minimum of 50 pounds or more.
