Responsibilities:

The following duties are illustrative for this position. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. 

  • Keeps the mission, vision and values of the client at the forefront of decision making and action; builds strategic and collaborative relationships and interacts with others in a way that builds confidence and trust; provides excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives, maintains high levels of work and productivity by generating innovative solutions to work situations.
  • Reviews plans and applications. Coordinates reviews of Fire Marshal, Electrical/Plumbing Inspections, etc.
  • Prepared comments for code deficiencies.
  • Calculates fees.
  • Attends meetings with staff, engineers, architects and contractors.
  • Maintains proficiency with code changes and ordinances.
  • Accesses, inputs and retrieves information from a computer.
  • Answers questions from the public.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of building construction.
  • Knowledge of building codes.
  • Skill in using standard equipment and testing devices.
  • Skill in correcting correct defects in building constructions.

  • Ability to interpret technical designs and blueprints.
  • Ability to enforce building codes.

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future. 

Education and Experience:

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
  • Six (6) years' experience in construction, design or inspections of buildings as supervisor or contractor, and must possess minimum of 2 valid building plans examiner certifications.

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations:

  • Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License and maintenance of a clean driving history.
  • Possession and maintenance of State of Florida-mandated licensing Requirements.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions, uneven surfaces and dust and is required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions, uneven surfaces, slippery surfaces and heights of up to 50 feet. Some stressful situations. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
