Salary Range: $16.82/hr. - $19.38/hr.

Responsibilities:

  • The Client's Public Health Department is seeking a full-time Certified Peer Support Specialist (substance use disorder) to work in the Community Health Division.
  • The Certified Peer Support Specialist is responsible for working on a team to expand and sustain the substance use disorder program to continue to meet the needs of the Wyandotte County community.
  • Position duties will include working one-on-one with identified clients to ensure recovery needs are met and sustained; Provide community referrals for clients with Substance Use Disorder who are seeking recovery options; Provide timely responses to community requests for assisting with getting clients embedded in local resources, including but not limited to jobs, food, housing, etc.; Keep abreast of community resources available to Wyandotte County community members experiencing substance use disorder, Provides service in a manner that is appropriate for the client’s age; demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to meet the client’s physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs.
  • This is a grant funded position that currently has funding through January 2024, continued work beyond this time is contingent on identifying further funding.

Qualifications:  

  • Kansas Certified Peer Mentoring Certification required or must be willing to obtain within a year of hire, a minimum of 2 years of personal lived experience in recovery from substance use disorder; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
  • Preferred experience: Prior Certified Peer Support Specialist experience, two to four years of direct substance use disorder experience in coaching, support, and behavioral intervention.
  • Current knowledge of local community resources for substance use disorder.
  • Knowledge of methods, practices, and techniques used in case management.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
  • This position requires a 40-hour workweek. Typical hours will be Monday – Friday but may also be required to work occasional weekend or evening events in the community.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Must be a resident of Wyandotte County or willing to relocate within one year of date of hire.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future. 

Education: 

  • High School diploma or GED required.
