Salary Range: $24.58 to $27.58 per hour

Responsibilities:

  • The Plant Operator II position is responsible technical and manual work in controlling the operation of the wastewater treatment plant and pump stations.
  • This position operates the treatment facilities to control flow and processing of wastewater, sludge and effluent.
  • Monitors gauges, meters and control panels.
  • Cleans and or paints plant equipment.
  • Observes variations in operating conditions and interprets meter and gauge readings, test results and visual observations to determine process requirements.
  • Operates valves and gates either manually or by remote control; starts and stops pumps and other equipment to control and adjust flow and treatment process.
  • Operates fork trucks, vactor/sucker trucks, as needed for process control or maintenance activities at treatment plants.
  • Maintain shift log and records meter readings.
  • Collects samples and performs routine operational tests and analyses.
  • Uses software for work orders and documentation, track history, parts and costs for each work order. Monitors and reports chemical levels and quantities for re-order purposes.
  • Performs routine maintenance, preventative maintenance, and custodial duties.
  • Coordinates and preventive and proactive maintenance activities with Maintenance Department under the direction of management and according to a specific schedule.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Location and Shifts vary.

Qualifications:  

  • Two or more years of relevant experience operating a wastewater treatment facility required; or any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job listed above.
  • Must have a valid Kansas Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with necessary endorsements; or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire date.
  • Current Class I KDHE operations certification.  
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future. 

Education: 

  • High School diploma or GED
