Responsibilities:

  • Participates in the chemical and biochemical analysis of water, wastewater and solid samples within an assigned area of work within the laboratory.
  • Includes performing sample preparation techniques for water and solid matrices.
  • Also included performing quality control functions related to the chemical analysis and review of associated data.
  • Maintains data and prepare reports as required by laboratory standard operating procedures. 
  • Operates and performs routine preventive maintenance of Auto Analyzer, Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer, Carbon Analyzer and other specialized analytical equipment.
  • Performs non-routine analyses of a specialized nature.
  • Assists in report writing, data handling, and any other office tasks as directed by the supervisory chemist.
  • Assists in the instruction and supervision of subordinates.
  • Assists the supervisory chemist in the development of applied research methods.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Work is physically demanding in hazardous conditions requiring close contact with different chemicals while wearing the appropriate safety equipment.
  • Depending on area of assignment, shall be able to comply with the requirements of the Utilities' Health and Safety Manual.

Qualifications:  

  • 0-3 years of work experience in a laboratory or field analytical setting.
  • Preferred candidates who have experience in chemical and biochemical analysis work in a certified environmental laboratory.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future. 

Education: 

  • Must have a BA/BS in an Environmental, scientific or technical discipline.

Travel Requirements:  

This position will involve no travel.
