Responsibilities:

The Industrial Electrician II performs responsible skilled work in the electrical operation, maintenance, and repair of water and wastewater treatment plant, lift stations, and remote pumping and treatment facilities’ equipment. This work is performed under little supervision. Employee normally receives little to no instruction on routine work and general instruction on new projects and assignments; work is reviewed periodically for accuracy of results achieved with primary feedback given with final results. Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence.

THIS POSITION REQUIRES SCHEDULED/UNSCHEDULED OVERTIME, INCLUDING EVENINGS, WEEKENDS, AND HOLIDAYS AND/OR IMMEDIATE RESPONSE TO EMERGENCY CONDITIONS.

  • Keeps the mission, vision and values of the client and Utility Systems Department at the forefront of decision making and action; builds strategic and collaborative relationships and interacts with others in a way that builds confidence and trust; provides excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives, maintaining high levels of work and productivity by generating innovative solutions to work situations.
  • Performs skilled journeyman level installation, maintenance, and repair activities on water treatment, wastewater treatment, reclaimed water systems, wastewater collection systems, water distribution systems, and generator systems.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs electrical systems located at well sites, sewer lift stations, metering and valve vaults, water, and wastewater plants.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs electrical equipment such as telemetry systems, motors, motor control centers, wells, sewer lift stations, generators, air compressors, etc.
  • Performs regular preventative maintenance at all lift stations and treatment facilities.
  • Orders parts and maintains inventory.
  • Regular and punctual attendance.
  • Works with plant operators to understand plant processes.
  • Assists in other maintenance operations.
  • Utilizes technical manuals, diagrams, and technical support to isolate and repair electrical control systems.
  • May assist in the calibration of process control equipment at Utility facilities, utilizing various types of test equipment.
  • May assist Instrumentation Technicians in troubleshooting and repairing PLC’s, HMI, and RF Modems.
  • Maintains accurate records and performs work related to this job description as required.
  • Other duties as may be assigned

Qualifications:  

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Working knowledge of National Electrical Code and relevant municipal codes.
  • Working knowledge of principles, methods, materials, equipment, and tools used in electrical trade.
  • Working knowledge of occupation hazards, safety rules, and practices.
  • Working knowledge of 3-phase electrical systems.
  • General knowledge of electronic circuitry and computer systems.
  • Working knowledge of pumps, machinery, motors, and their electrical controls.
  • Ability to work from blueprints, schematic drawings, and/or construction drawing.
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals and work instruction and apply them to maintenance and operation activities.
  • Ability to troubleshoot routine to complex electrical problems related to water and wastewater treatment and pumping facilities.
  • Ability to work without close supervision and make minor decisions pertaining to work problems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.
  • Ability to focus on the positive in every situation. 
  • Ability to stay centered when challenged.
  • Ability to model respect for individuals, teams, and the organization.
  • Ability to establish and maintain the trust and confidence of the department and public.

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future. 

Education and Experience:

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma supplemented by college courses required.
  • Two (2) Years prior Water/Wastewater Utility experience required.

A comparable amount of training, education, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations:

  • Possession of a Journeyman Electrician License required.
  • NFPA 70E Electrical Safety Requirements, Basic Motor Control, VFD Training, Industrial Automation and Control Certification or Certificate of Completion required to be obtained within two (2) years from date of hire while employed under this job classification.  
  • Completion of four (4) year Electrical Apprenticeship preferred.
  • Possession of valid Florida Driver's License and maintenance of clean driving record required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions that may be adverse and extreme (heat, humidity, cold, rain, etc.). The employee is frequently exposed to noise, dust, fumes, airborne particles, uneven surfaces, heights, and stressful situations. 
 
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
